Intro to Icelandic Knitting Workshop with The Kastali Sweater

Join local knitter and passionate textile lover Christine Flynn for this 2 session workshop featuring traditional Icelandic knitting. Whether you’re an advanced beginner or an eager intermediate, stretch your skills in a supportive environment and meet new friends along the way. Learn how to read a colourwork chart, manage multiple colourways, and create an heirloom garment for a loved one. 

Please note, the Kastali pattern also comes in multiple adult sizes, and includes a cropped version - if you’re feeling ambitious, you are more than welcome to select the Kastali pattern of your choosing for this class.

  • Long-tail cast-on

  • Bottom up construction

  • Knitting in the round

  • Yoke shaping

  • Colourwork

  • Collar variations

Skills Required

  • Knitters interested in this class must be comfortable with the basics. You need to be able to cast on & bind off, knit & purl, work in the round, work k2tog & ssk decreases, and work kfb increases.

  • You will be asked to do some knitting outside the class to complete the project within the four week timeframe.

Materials and Notions:

  • Ribbing Needles: 3.5 mm (US 4), 40 and 60-80 cm circular needles or size required to achieve gauge

  • Main Needles: 4.5 mm (US 7), 40 and 60-80 cm circular needles or size required to achieve gauge

  • A copy of Children’s Kastali* pattern available on lopidesign.is

  • Stitch markers, stitch holders, waste yarn

  • Enough yarn to complete your project - we recommend Estelle Highland Alapaca Worsted

  • A pen/pencil for taking notes
