Intro to Colourwork with Nordic Bloom Vest


The Nordic Bloom vest has a little bit of everything to level up your knitting! Join local knitter and passionate textile lover Christine Flynn in a 4 week class. Whether you’re an advanced beginner or an eager intermediate, if you want to try out colourwork in a supportive and creative environment, this class is for you!

Week One Topics: 

  • Colour selection

  • Gauge swatching

  • Tubular vs Long Tail Cast On

Week Two Topics: 

  • Setting up your steek

  • Colourwork basics 

Week Three Topics: 

  • German shortrow

  • Picking up armholes and neckline

Week Four Topics: 

  • Tubular Bind-off

  • Steeking! 

  • Button placement

Skills Required

  • Knitters interested in this class must be comfortable with the basics. You should be able to cast on & bind off, knit & purl, work in the round, work k2tog & ssk decreases, and work kfb increases.

  • You will be asked to do some knitting outside the class to complete the vest within the four week timeframe

Materials (sold separately) and Notions:

  • Ribbing Needles: 4.0 mm circular needles or size required to achieve gauge

  • Main Needles: 5.5 mm circular needles or size required to achieve gauge

  • A copy of Nordic Bloom Cardigan and Vest pattern by Caitlin Hunter

  • 3 x 30mm buttons

  • Stitch markers, stitch holders, waste yarn

  • Enough yarn to complete your project - we recommend Estelle Highland Alpaca Worsted

  • A pen/pencil for taking notes

  • 2 hours for 4 sessions
